Fishing Permits
Before you fish the Wey, you'll need a rod licence and a permit for the stretch you're fishing. Here's where to get them.
Environment Agency rod licence
Everyone aged 13 and over needs a rod licence to fish in England. Buy online at gov.uk or by phone. Licences are available for a day, a week, or a year. This is a legal requirement--bailiffs do check.
Club permits
Different stretches of the Wey are controlled by different clubs. You'll need a day ticket or membership for the club controlling your chosen stretch. Day tickets typically cost £5-10. Some clubs offer season tickets for regular visitors.
Where to buy day tickets
- Apollo Angling, Marsh Farm - covers Godalming Angling Society waters
- A&R Newsagents, Godalming - Godalming Angling Society
Some clubs also sell permits online through their websites or via platforms like Clubmate.
Night fishing
Rules vary by club. Most require advance permission for night fishing and some stretches don't allow it. Check with the relevant club before planning an overnight session.
