Narrowboat Holidays
A week on a narrowboat is a different way to see the world. Travel at walking pace, moor where you like, wake up to mist on the water.
Narrowboats on the Wey typically sleep 2-6 people in surprising comfort--full kitchen, heating, shower, and proper beds. You'll be given thorough instruction on handling the boat and working the locks before you set off.
A week is enough to explore the full navigation from Godalming to Weybridge and back, with plenty of time for pub stops, towpath walks, and lazy mornings. Shorter breaks of 3-4 nights work well if you want a taster.
The pace is set by the locks. Each one takes 10-15 minutes to work through, and there are 16 in total. It's part of the experience--good exercise, satisfying when you get the hang of it.
Best time to go
Spring and autumn are lovely--quieter, cooler, and the light on the water is beautiful. Summer is busier but warm evenings on deck are hard to beat. Winter bookings are possible and atmospheric, though shorter days limit how far you'll travel.
