Boat Hire
Take to the water for a few hours or a full day. Self-drive day boats are easy to handle--you'll get a quick lesson and be on your way within minutes.
Day boats typically seat 4-6 people and cruise at a leisurely pace. Most are electric, quiet and clean. You'll be shown how to steer, stop, and handle the locks--it's straightforward and part of the fun.
Expect to cover 2-4 miles in a half day, depending on how many locks you pass through and how long you stop for lunch. The stretch from Guildford through Stoke Lock towards Send is popular, with countryside views and the option to moor at a riverside pub.
What to bring
A picnic if you like, though there are pubs along the way. Layers--it's cooler on the water. Sunscreen in summer. A camera.
Booking
Book ahead for weekends and school holidays. Weekdays are usually quieter and often available at short notice.
