Send
Village on the water
Send is one of those villages that sits quietly beside something special. The Wey runs along its edge, and a short walk down a lane brings you to Cart Bridge and the New Inn--a proper riverside pub with a garden overlooking the water.
This stretch of the navigation feels more rural than the sections nearer Guildford. Fields run down to the water, boats pass less frequently, and the pace slows. It's good walking country, with paths linking the towpath to Send Marsh, Ripley, and the surrounding farmland.
The village itself has a church, a shop, and a quiet residential character. It's not a destination for sightseeing, but for those walking the navigation, it offers a pleasant pause with refreshment available and towpath continuing in both directions.
Getting Here
Send is between Guildford and Woking, accessible by car via the A247. No railway station--nearest is Clandon or Woking. The towpath provides walking and cycling access from both directions.
